Our Learning Model

"Children learn as they play. More importantly in play, children learn how to learn."

– O. Fred Donaldson PHD

Play-based learning, inquiry, and the importance of time spent outdoors is central to all UCCC programs.

We believe children learn best through self-directed play that meets their unique needs and encourages:

We also believe time spent outdoors in all types of weather promotes health and well-being.

Benefits of Our Program

Children further develop their abilities in the areas of:

  • Self-confidence
  • Self-regulation
  • Resilience
  • Engagement
  • Skill development (problem solving, gross and fine motor, language, etc.)
  • Academics

Role of the Educator

Educators observe and join in children’s play to identify their interests and knowledge. They extend and discover the next step in children’s learning by asking purposeful questions like:

  • What do you think?
  • What do you wonder?
  • How do you think we can find out?
In any given moment, “play” can include opportunities to explore math, science, art, or literature; our educators are always looking for those opportunities.

Our Program Statement, based upon ‘the Four Foundations of Learning‘ guides program design and implementation.

Educators document individual and group experiences on our convenient Storypark App providing an easy way for families to connect with programs.
